Pilates Foundations

with Patty

Are you looking to embark on a rewarding journey towards improved physical health and well-being? Our 6-week foundations Pilates course offers the perfect starting point for you.

Pilates is a holistic approach to enhancing your physical health, offering benefits that extend far beyond the physical realm. It can work wonders for your posture, muscle tone, balance, and joint mobility while also providing a sanctuary to alleviate stress and tension.

Each session begins with gentle stretches in a standing position, designed to warm and prepare your body. As we progress, you'll transition through a series of exercises, lying on your back, side, and front and then moving onto your hands and knees before sitting. We conclude with a rejuvenating standing stretch, leaving you refreshed and ready to embrace the rest of your day.

To enhance your practice, we provide various equipment, including resistance bands and over balls, all courtesy of our studio.

Our dedicated teacher is here to support you every step of the way, offering guidance, assistance, and alternative exercises should you ever feel uncomfortable or have specific concerns. Your well-being is our top priority, so please don't hesitate to contact the teacher with any questions or concerns. We look forward to embarking on this Pilates journey with you!

Week 1

Alignment, breathing and control

You will learn the ABC’s of the Pilates repertoire, neutral alignment and breathing techniques to make the exercises more efficient and find your Core while also developing an understanding of the quality and controlled movements to increase body awareness in each exercise. We will be using small equipment.

Week 2

Flexibility and range of movement

With concentration, you will learn and feel the movement in the desired place but also will concentrate on keeping the rest of the body quiet as you breathe and control your movements promoting a challenging range of movements to improve your coordination and flexibility.

Week 3

Dynamic alignment and isolation of movements

Going further with your understanding of your body and its movements, this week will focus on moving whilst you maintain neutral alignment, feeling the movement and knowing when you need to stop and go back. We will modify exercises accordingly to your ability.

Week 4

Postural stability and control

We will keep on practicing exercises focused on movement quality to gain equal muscle strength and work with the opposition to gravity and how this affects our postural alignment and stability.

Week 5

Adaptations and progression

We will practice previous sequences and progress to more challenging exercises, ensuring individual flexibility and physical ability whilst you use the previous knowledge to create more flowing and controlled movements.

Week 6

Regression and balance

In the final week, we will challenge your balance whilst practicing different exercises learnt from the basic exercises to the intermediate repertoire; you will regress if necessary to make sure you have a full understanding of the body awareness.

  • We have a strict latecomers policy. Latecomers will not be admitted any later than 5 minutes after the commencement of the session. Past this point, it will be disruptive for you to enter the room, and since you will not have warmed up properly, heading into class this late may also be damaging for your body. We recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes early so the class and your day can run on time.

  • Cancellations within 72 hours of the course starting will not be refunded.

Cancellations outside of 72 hours of the course start will be refunded upon request, otherwise, the passes can be transferred to another course (or a later cohort of the cancelled course).

There is no refund offered for missed sessions within the course.

If we are required to cancel a class due to teacher illness, we will offer a make-up session the week following the last session of the course.

The teacher may choose to cancel a course if a low number of people sign up. Please book in as early as you can to stop this from happening! Your pass will automatically be returned to your Mindbody account in this incidence. You can request a refund if you want one, otherwise, the passes can be transferred to another course (or a later cohort of the cancelled course).
